A full review of the IT operational costs of a global company might seem quite daunting. Drawing on our company ethos of a pragmatic and simple approach to all things IT, we systematically assessed all areas of expenditure of the IT operational budget along with both current and historic invoices and supplier contracts. Initially targeting high ticket items, we discovered many areas where suppliers were overcharging and numerous services that were being billed for which were no longer consumed or needed. We proposed (and helped implement) strategic changes in hosting locations and platforms to drive down costs. The successful outcome included a multi-million pound reduction in opex, a transparent view on the remaining IT costs along with clear processes on how to sustain that, through well defined budgeting processes.
Legacy Platform Refresh
Out with the old and in with the new!
Legacy systems that you just can't do without. This is a common problem of an application that is expected to be sunset - you just don't know when: running on outdated hardware or on an unsupported operating system.
We addressed this for our client who was hosting two large IBM Power Systems running IBM i (Formerly iSeries or AS/400).
Through pragmatic thinking, creative negotiation with trusted suppliers and a desire to find the right solution, we successfully replaced both systems with zero capital outlay, a reduced operating cost and a relatively short term contractual commitment. This enabled the client to refresh the hardware to the latest, higher performing technology, running a current operating system. Multiple additional benefits to the business were achieved as a by-product such as:

Our services went beyond the strategy and contract orchestration to creation and validation of the migration plan in conjunction with the client's outsource partner. Then we delivered the project management through the implementation phase to successful completion.
Infrastructure Consolidation
Cut out the "Sprawl"
Some years ago, server sprawl was a big target for companies looking to reduce their infrastructure footprint and total cost of ownership. At Zerosixtwo we undertook a review of a company's infrastructure footprint to discover, unsurprisingly, that sprawl was not limited to physical servers but more prolific was the estate of virtual servers; all of which was spread across multiple data centers. This is true of physical machines or cloud services. A misplaced belief that consolidation was too difficult or risky, combined with a low confidence in IT by the business had hampered any efforts to address this. A positive attitude, a track record in delivery and a little well placed trust from the business achieved results beyond the business' expectations delivering a significant cost saving, reduced complexity and a renewed confidence in IT.
